Nomad Drive Treasure: How to Detect, Dig & Unlock a Chest
Use the detector, dig with the shovel’s Use interaction, and unlock an exposed chest with a usable key.
Bring a metal detector, shovel and a usable key. Narrow down the spot, use the shovel until the chest is exposed, then aim at its lock with the key for Unlock.

Bring three things
You need a metal detector, a shovel and a key that works with the chest. The steps below are for a common chest; a key must work with the lock you find.
Find the digging spot
Hold the detector and move it over the ground. Use the beeps to narrow the area: listen for more frequent beeping as you approach and a change in tone near the target.
You can put the detector down beside the spot as a visible reference while switching tools. That is a practical marker, not a required part of the digging mechanic. Narrow the spot before switching to the shovel.
Dig until the chest appears
- Equip the shovel and move to the spot you identified.
- Aim at the ground.
- Use the mouse action shown as Use. You do not need to find a separately labelled Dig key.
- Continue digging until the wooden chest is exposed.
Judge progress by the chest becoming visible, rather than counting on a fixed number of shovel uses.
Unlock and open it
- Hold a usable key and approach the exposed chest.
- Aim at the lock until Unlock appears.
- Use the displayed interaction, then open the lid.
- Check that the lid opens and the contents are visible. For a common chest, the related objective can also tick off.
An apple appears in the common-chest example, but that is not a guaranteed reward. Do not expect the same contents in every chest.
