Nomad Drive Co-op: Player Count & Connection Problems
Compare full-game and Demo player counts, identify the right Steam app and understand the limits of connection workarounds.
Both the full game and the current Demo Steam listings advertise 1–4 player co-op. They are separate apps, so check that everyone launches the same product. A grey join button has no single established fix.

How many players can play?
| Product | Advertised co-op count | Steam app |
|---|---|---|
| Nomad Drive | 1–4 players | 2223980 |
| Nomad Drive Demo | 1–4 players | 4568400 |
Both current listings include single-player and online co-op for 1–4 players. This is the advertised player count, not a guarantee that a particular lobby or connection will work.
Identify the version you are trying to join
Before troubleshooting a connection, check whether the session is for Nomad Drive or Nomad Drive Demo. They have separate Steam app pages, even though their current advertised player counts match.
- Open the full-game Steam page for the main product.
- Open the Demo Steam page for the free Demo.
- Do not assume that a hosted-server guide describes the same invitation flow as an ordinary player-hosted lobby.
Grey join button or failed connection
There is no single established solution for the reported grey-button case. Reinstalling the game and checking firewall settings have not resolved every reported instance, so neither should be presented as a guaranteed fix.
Likewise, a player slot that remains occupied after somebody leaves is a more specific symptom than a generic connection failure. A workaround for one does not automatically diagnose the other.
What about community fixes?
A community mod called Demo Fixes describes changes for occupied lobby slots and frozen survival timers after switching from another player’s session to hosting your own save. It is a third-party modification, not an official patch or a guaranteed fix for the grey join button.
Use the player-count table to plan your group. Treat the grey button, occupied lobby slots and frozen timers as separate symptoms when describing a connection problem.
